Why Choose Polished ConcreteThere is no other floor finish that can be customized like concrete. Concrete is a product of nature and is the most widely used material in construction. Concrete is an advanteous ecological material with inherent beauty. The possibilities to customize concrete as a floor are countless. The final appearance of HiPERFLOOR polished concrete is influenced by the colour of the stone, the size and distribution from within the concrete new and existing. HiPERFLOOR polished concrete is desirable for those who want a stylish easy to maintain floor that can withstand the abuse of every day life. There are multiple solutions in turning a basic dull grey concrete surface to a hardened abrasive resistant low maintenance flooring option. Stains can be added to create a permanent colour and combined with our polishing process, your floor will be one of aesthetics and beauty. The use of concrete as a floor finish makes sense. Building green or passive solar design is slowly being incorporated in modern building techniques, with the emphasis of creating better energy efficiency. When concrete is warmed the thermal mass holds the warmth many times longer than products like timber, tiles and vinyl flooring. HiPERFLOOR polished concrete system will create a better environment, will offer many years of service with little cost to maintain. Polished concrete is gaining a reputation as the floor finish of the future. HardeningDuring the process a hardener is applied which penetrates up to 5 - 7mm depending on surface tension. It stops dust, wearing, the concrete paste around the aggregate from being removed and aids in the closing off process. |
SealingThere are various impregnated sealers used with a life span from 1 - 5 years before resealing is needed. There is HiPerguard basic approx 1 year, HiPerguard premium approx 5 years, HiPerguard enhancer approx 3 years. These close off the capillaries stopping fluids from entering the surface though still allowing for Moisture Vapour Transmission (MVT) to occur from within the concrete. Not all sealers are the same. Impregnated sealers are applied at a level of 4 coats.CleaningThe cleaning process is very simple. All you have to do is make sure you wipe up any spills when they occur. No harsh acid based cleaning products are to be used.HiPerfloor can be used in a variety of applications such as:

TerrazzoGrinding – Polishing – RestorationTerrazzo flooring has evolved to cater for different installation types. Originally terrazzo was placed as an insitu product, mixed and installed in small grids. Designs where difficult and time consuming. Terrazzo tile became the choice for ease of installation and customized designs or layouts are much easier to achieve. The latest terrazzo style flooring is resinous or epoxy terrazzo. All of these installations require diamond grinding and honing through to highly polished finishes.Ultimate Floors does not install these products, we specialize in after installation grinding, polishing and protective sealers. Restoring existing terrazzo to better than original finish. |

Diamond polishing V’s Flim Coat Sealers
Diamond polished surfaces is a step towards providing a environment that is easier to maintain, has a very low VOC therefore providing a healthier alternative to methods currently used. Terrazzo, like concrete has cement content in it’s make up which is required to densify or harden the product. A special silicate is applied to the surface which reacts with Calcium Hydroxide (the free lime) which is formed when water and cement are mixed.Calcium Silicate- a glassy crystalline product is formed during this reaction. It forms in the pores of cement based terrazzo near the surface increasing the surface hardness, therefore increasing the abrasion resistance. When this calcium silicate forms it is permanent, then diamond polishing process continues which closes up the surface creating a highly reflective natural shine. Penetrating sealer is applied adding more protection and resistance to fats, oils, liquids and acids. These sealers are invisible to the eye and do not alter the colour.
Topical sealers of various types are designed to protect surfaces that porous or lack the ability to produce a natural shine. Terrazzo is extensively used in shopping centre malls and predominately protected with sacrificial sealers. These are easy to apply, give good protection though have a short life and mark relatively easy. Film coat sealers have a low cost to apply, however when costs are added over a 2-3 year cycle this type of finish is more expensive when compared to diamond polished terrazzo surfaces. Maintenance programs are established for further coats to be applied and complete strip and recoats are required periodically for this type of finish to look at its best.
Overview
Diamond polished terrazzo has a more user friendly maintenance program. Regular buffing keeps the polished surface to premium shine. Application of invisible penetrating sealer at regular intervals with give added protection. There is no further need to strip, clean and recoat regularly.Polished surfaces like terrazzo, marble and concrete reduces cleaning costs dramatically, promotes a cleaner healthier environment not only for the end users, also for the contractors implementing these processes. Ultimate Floors is committed in changing the way terrazzo is finished, maintained with extremely low VOC emissions which provides a manageable approach when considering environmental issues.
